As parents, we hope that we never need to perform CPR on our child; however, it is important to be prepared should an emergency situation occur. This class will provide you with skills and knowledge to use in case of cardiac arrest or an airway obstruction before professional emergency medical services arrive. This class includes time dedicated to hands-on practice with mannequins. It is specifically designed for expecting parents, parents, grandparents, nannies, and other caregivers of young children.

The Infant/Pediatric CPR session will be approximately 2 hours in length depending upon the number of questions and hands-on practice time. We want to make sure that each person has ample opportunity to practice on the mannequins. The mannequins that will be used for this session are equipped with feedback devices that will let you know if your compressions are adequate. For this reason, we recommend finding care for your little one so that you can get the most out of this session. However, we understand that many of you have tiny babies that are difficult to find care for. Because of this, babies may attend if they are younger than 4 months and in a front carrier or carseat. Although we are happy to help in any way we can, please be mindful that brining a baby may make it more difficult for you to participate in the hands-on portion of this class.

This session is taught by Lisa Grossman of South Bay Baby Care - a Registered Nurse and an American Heart Association (AHA) certified CPR & First Aid instructor. Lisa is certified to teach infant, child and adult CPR. She teaches both Heartsaver + First Aid and BLS courses for both laypeople and healthcare professionals. In this class, Lisa will educate you on the links in the Chain of Survival and we will practice CPR with mannequins.

About your instructor, Lisa Grossman: Lisa is a Registered Nurse; she graduated from Mount St. Mary’s Accelerated Bachelors of Science Nursing program in 2012. She has worked in the Neurological and Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU), is an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) (certified through the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation), and worked at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on the Mother/Baby (Post-partum) Unit.  She now owns South Bay Baby Care, where she shares her knowledge and expertise with expectant and new parents in the areas of newborn care, breastfeeding & lactation, sleep routines, post-partum care, and CPR + First Aid.
